AltBritain Update

This week we have been trying to build engagement on our social media pages. I focused on Facebook, sharing links to our website as well as posts from other Facebook pages. I’ve been experimenting with scheduling posts at different times and looking for pages a with similar audience to ours.

Here are my findings:

  • The views on the page have decreased as the post reach has increased. This means people are seeing our posts without having to click on the actual page – which can only be a good thing.
  • The posts with the highest reach was posted at 17:28 on the 8th Feb – It’s reach was more than double the next highest. I’m not sure if this is due to the content or the timing. So I plan to schedule a different type post for around the same time this week to find this out.
  • A meme I created using a picture from one of our articles had a  pretty good reach, as well as a gif. relating to another post. So it seems that pictures with captions are more popular than others.
  • Posts that are slightly more serious (but still ‘alternative’) seem to be popular so we need to look for more , so we need to look for more ‘newsy’ articles to share/post.

Task for this week: Our likes on Facebook are not increasing very fast so we need to find a way to keep people on the page long enough for them to like it.

A Little Update on The Life of Carnie

Everything on this blog has been Uni-related lately so I thought I’d break it up with a little life update.

First of all University is going great! I’m loving it. My first lot of deadlines are coming up, and I think I’ve got it all under control. I’m not feeling too overwhelmed.. yet. I hope I’m not speaking too soon.

As part of my Enterprise module I’m setting myself up as a Social Media Consultant. If you want to follow my progress, you can here.

What else?

I’ve just starting writing for a new fashion and lifestyle blog – My first post is on Winter Nails. I’m really starting to like this whole fashion writing thing… even though my fashion sense is, at best, rather quirky.

The jewellery-making has had to take a back seat. I just can’t fit everything in. I’ve barely even had time to colour… and I really love colouring…

… almost as much as I love SATC

So I’m Back..

..and you probably didn’t even know I was away! ( my blogging can be erratic at times)

I’ve been in Salou, Spain, for a week. My plan was to queue up a couple of posts while I was away, and actually telling whoever you are that reads this blog that I was going on holiday would’ve been a good idea too.

But instead I waited until the last-minute to pack. I was running around on Saturday because I lost my bus pass and needed to get  a few things from town, and had a complete mad-stress moment. In the end I found my bus pass in the pages of The Hobbit, after I’d already paid for and ordered a new one, so naturally I blamed the book and refused to read it for a few days.

But in the end I made it to the airport on time, arrived in Spain to glorious sunshine, and had a pretty good holiday (including a lovely massage). There were a few things that annoyed me though. Firstly, how dare it be sunny in England when I go on holiday, then pour it down the day I get back. Every single time I step off a plane, the skies open.

Secondly, I felt like a complete fool because a little Spanish girl tried to have a conversation with me while I was relaxing in the Spa, and I couldn’t understand a single word she was saying. She insisted on trying to get me to understand her, and we ended up making random hand signals and laughing at each other.

I never seem to be able to get my head around languages. But I’ve decided that I’m going to learn one – maybe Spanish. Until then I’ll remember to at least take a language dictionary with me when I go abroad.

Then finally, when it was time to come home, nothing went right. I can deal with one thing being delayed, but my bus to the airport, the plane, and taxi home were late. So I ended up getting home four hours later than planned. When the holiday is over I just want to be home.

Anyway, here’s a little update/what’s to come bit for you:

-I finished reading The Hobbit while I was on holiday so a review of that is coming.

-Pictures from the holiday: Barcelona, beaches, my sister, her friend and me pulling silly faces, and whatever else I’ve forgotten about..

-I was thinking of doing a ‘things to see’ post for Barcelona as I didn’t get to see half the things I wanted to.

-I am yet to use the Writing Map I won, so I’ll have to do something about that.

That’s about it for now, and I promise I’ll be more organised before I go away next time and sort out bloggy-type-things well in advance 🙂

Two Weeks…

I haven’t written for a while (two weeks about I think) as I haven’t felt like there’s much to write. I got ill (tonsillitis) so that killed my gym-going. Running for the bus even made me dizzy. Now that I’m feeling better I need to get back on track.

I started a radio course. Well I’m in the last week of it now. I was never really interested in radio as I wasn’t very good at it. But out of all of the things the job centre could send me too I thought it would be the better one. It’s a lot better than I thought it would be actually. I guess I learn some things better in a more relaxed environment, and for someone who hates banter I’ve got along with the most banterous (?that’s not a word?) people I’ve ever met. I’ve always thought that I didn’t get banter, because to me real insults in disguise are not banter. But these guys are so crazy, I love it.

My friend has had her baby, who I haven’t had chance to see as I didn’t want to pass on my germs. My relationship seems to be getting back on track. I can’t complain. But I will because I’m bored of my life. I’m going on holiday next week so hopefully I’ll snap out of this.
